Why Astrology?
Astrology is often reduced to stereotypes or personality memes, but that’s never been what drew me. What captivated me was how layered it is and everything it touches. I love that it sits at the intersection of philosophy, psychology, art, mythology, the occult, and spirituality, which were all subjects I’ve nerded out over for as long as I can remember. I was especially drawn to Carl Jung’s understanding of the psyche, the subconscious, and archetypes, and how seamlessly those ideas bleed into astrological symbolism. Astrology became a language to me, a language of the cosmos, and somehow it felt familiar. I picked it up like a second language.
The practice first began with the Babylonians in Mesopotamia in 2nd millennium B.C., though its roots can be traced even further back to the 3rd millennium B.C. by the Sumerians. The oldest known horoscope chart even believed to date to 409 B.C. The Babylonians took it a step further by developing the organized system of astrology, including the 12-sign zodiac wheel. They leveraged this practice to track celestial bodies to predict seasonal changes and divine omens. Then the Greeks blended Babylonian astrology with their own practices, resulting in horoscopes. This emerged during the beautiful Hellenistic period of the Mediterranean in 4th century B.C. to 2nd century A.D. For thousands of years, astrology was not separate from astronomy and was considered a legitimate academic discipline used to understand human behavior until the 17th century.
Make no mistake – astrology is observation, not magic. It emereged from tracking celestial cycles and correlating them with earthly events. That doesn’t mean it “causes” things. It means humans noticed patterns. Astrology works because humans are pattern-seeking beings. We understand ourselves through story and symbol. Archetypes help us recognize parts of ourselves we might otherwise avoid. When those parts are named, we gain perspective and perspective drives behavioral change.
This space exists because I don’t believe astrology is about certainty or superiority; rather it’s about awareness, autonomy, and agency. My hope is that through this work, we learn together. I want to help people trust themselves more deeply, understand their timing, and feel prepared for the shifts and transitions life inevitably brings. Astrology doesn’t replace free will; it helps you work with the energy available to you. And that, to me, is where its real power lives. This is the foundation of every online astrology reading I offer.
